Call for Participation: China-Africa Youth Forum on Volunteering

(www.wydf.org.cn)   20:10, November 22, 2022

Background

Every day, millions of individuals across the planet engage in public activities and serve the society through volunteer actions. Volunteering is playing an increasingly important role in reducing unemployment and poverty, providing quality education, disaster relief, environmental protection, climate change, and sustainable development. A large portion of those volunteers are young people.

According to the UN Volunteers, around one in three young people report that they are volunteering. Among all of them, as of October 2022, the total number of Chinese volunteers has exceeded 229 million. In Africa, the monthly number of volunteers aged 15 years and over (working-age) amounts to almost 110 million. The share of the African total working-age population who volunteer accounts 17.5 percent, which is much higher than the data for Europe, Central Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Through volunteering, the youth from China and Africa are playing a positive role in advancing international, regional and national development affairs and gaining new platforms for China-Africa cooperation.

On November 29, 2021, H.E. President Xi Jinping proposed to hold the China-Africa Youth Forum on Volunteering at the opening ceremony of the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Living up to this aspiration, All-China Youth Federation will host the China-Africa Youth Forum on Volunteering in Beijing, China, during December 2-3, 2022. The Forum will be organized by the China Youth Volunteers Association and co-organized by China International Youth Exchange Center. The Forum is also supported by the UN Volunteers and ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Center.

Objectives

With the theme of Pooling Strength of Youth Volunteering to Build China-Africa Development Partnerships, the Forum aims to:
