It's just 18 days until the Beijing Winter Olympics, and so far, China has gotten 46 million teens interested in winter sports, a promise made when bidding to host the games. At the Youth Sports International Forum, young leaders shared how they helped make this impressive feat happen.

Forty-six million Chinese youngsters have been given the chance to experience winter sports, a project that was seven years in the making. Before the Winter Olympics, young leaders gathered in Beijing to contribute towards this task.

JEFF CHAN Founder of Hong Kong student Association of Beijing Higher Education Institutes "My hometown Hong Kong has no ski resorts due to the climate and terrain there. We have skating rinks in shopping malls but the cost is often a bit high for a student to afford. When I was young, I didn't have many chances to experience skiing."

Chan says their student union now invites teenagers to watch live games. And some newly-launched indoor ski resorts encourage students to participate in winter sports. Here at the forum, there's been multiple ways to help motivate young winter sport enthusiasts.

YANG YANG Athletes Commission Chairperson, Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee "For example in Beijing, all students have the opportunity and access to winter sports, either skiing or skating. Since we won the bid, there's a big market for people to go out and try winter sports."

At the forum speakers have been paying special attention on whom to attract to these sports. The concept of "inclusivity" has been repeatedly mentioned. And a plan to get youths involved from war-torn countries and regions is seen as a priority.

VANNO NOUPECH UNHCR Representative in China "We have a lot of gratitude to (China), because China has supported the Global Compacts on Refugees. Emergency shelters, education as well as personal protective equipment. These are extremely useful for refugees. So the slogan, 'Together for a Shared Future' is extremely inspiring for us. And UNHCR is calling the world that all the refugees and host committees have access to do extraordinary things to feel the transformative power of sports."
