To mark the International Youth Day (12 August), UNESCO partnered with the Talent Development Association of International Organizations (TDAIO), to host a dynamic workshop titled “MIL 4 Youth – Navigating the AI-driven World” at its Headquarters in Paris.

Bringing together 114 students from over 30 Chinese universities, the workshop formed part of the UNESCO Youth Hackathon 2025, organized in the framework of Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week.

As Artificial Intelligence rapidly transforms how information is produced, accessed, and disseminated, the need for young people to develop strong critical thinking and digital literacy skills has never been greater. UNESCO is committed to empowering youth to navigate these challenges - tackling issues such as disinformation, algorithmic bias, and the responsible use of AI-generated content.

With that in mind, the full-day programme on 12 August 2025 combined micro-training sessions on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) with project development exercises and an interactive team workshop to kickstart participants’ Youth Hackathon proposals.

Throughout the day, 12 teams presented innovative proposals - from digital tools to interactive games - addressing issues such as disinformation detection, academic integrity, and algorithmic fairness. Among the standout concept was a multilingual card game designed to verify AI-generated information, accompanied by a detailed implementation plan and coding roadmap, demonstrating both creativity and technical rigor.

This initiative underscores UNESCO’s continued commitment to equipping youth with the skills, knowledge, and tools to become active shapers of inclusive, informed, and resilient digital societies. By fostering collaboration, innovation, and critical engagement with AI, UNESCO reaffirms that young people are not just beneficiaries of technology - but also leaders in shaping its future.
