Brazil hosted the 10th BRICS Young Scientists Forum in its capital, bringing together bright minds from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The forum aims to promote innovative scientific projects that deliver tangible social impact, especially in areas of global urgency.
This year’s discussions center around three main themes: climate change adaptation and mitigation, scientific diplomacy, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for social development. These issues reflect shared priorities among the BRICS nations and align with global goals for sustainable progress.
Adriana Thome, head of the Brazilian delegation, highlighted the forum’s importance in strengthening scientific and technological collaboration across the Global South. She emphasized the relevance of the topics in the lead-up to the UN Climate Change Conference.
Albina Kutuzova, leading the Russian delegation, noted the relevance of the chosen themes for Russia’s scientific landscape. Indian representative Nagabupati Mohan praised the forum’s organization, calling the event a success in both planning and execution.
Tebogo Modiba of South Africa underscored the forum’s role in deepening intra-BRICS ties, ultimately supporting broader development goals across the Global South.
The previous BRICS Young Scientists Forum took place in Russia in November 2024.
