Idris Bilyaminu Ndasadu'Lau from Nigeria leads the Community Action-led Projects, which focuses on civic action initiatives across Nigeria and the broader African continent. He emphasizes that inadequate commitment and insufficient funding are among the most pressing challenges driving poverty and food insecurity in the region, acting as critical barriers to progress. To tackle these issues, he advocates for building collaborative partnerships, with a strong focus on engaging young people globally, not just within Africa. His greatest hope for sustainable future growth lies in ensuring inclusive participation: when everyone—especially grassroots communities—is meaningfully included in decision-making, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) become achievable. He believes this can be realized by strengthening inclusive practices and establishing a robust tracking system to ensure grassroots voices are integrated into all stages of development initiatives.
Community Action-Led Initiative
In sub-Saharan Africa, education lacking mechanisms for civic participation is one of the biggest challenges hindering young citizens from actively engaging in community affairs. Challenges such as poverty, social inequality, lack of accountability, poor governance, and low living standards remain widespread in Nigeria. This program conducts initiatives led by community actions, aiming to empower young people through education in a more effective way, promote their participation in civic actions and community development, and create a favorable environment with open accountability, transparency, and grass-roots democratic governance.
The program has successfully empowered over 8,000 young citizens, covering more than 15 communities, and proposed sustainable community solutions for youth participation. It was successfully launched in Cameroon at the end of 2023, dedicated to reducing poverty, marginalization, and inequality in Africa.
