Building on insights from more than 200,000 young people worldwide, youth representatives will meet in Tokyo to shape a shared agenda for education beyond 2030 and inform broader consultations across the education community.

Young people shaping the future of education

What should education look like beyond 2030? Young people must be at the forefront of answering this question. Their aspirations, experiences and leadership are therefore essential to building an education agenda that is inclusive, relevant and responsive to a rapidly changing world.

The SDG 4 High-Level Steering Committee has launched a global, multi-stakeholder process to shape the future education agenda beyond 2030. This process begins by listening to young people, recognizing them not only as beneficiaries of education, but as partners and agents of change.

Led by the SDG 4 Youth & Student Network hosted by UNESCO, and supported by the Government of Japan, the global youth and student consultations on a Post-2030 Youth Education Agenda have gathered the voices of more than 200,000 youth from 194 countries. They shared their views on: the world they want to live in; the changes needed in education to help create that world; and the actions young people and other stakeholders can take to drive those changes. The consultations prioritized the participation of young people whose perspectives are too often excluded or underrepresented.

From 200,000 voices to a shared Youth Agenda

At this workshop in Tokyo, youth representatives from the SDG 4 Youth & Student Network, United Nations University and the Youth Committee of the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO will turn consultation findings into a shared vision, priorities and strategies for education beyond 2030.

Together, they will draft a Post-2030 Youth Education Agenda. The draft will be presented to world leaders at the 2027 Global Education Meeting and will inform the next phase of consultations with governments, civil society, teachers and other education actors.
